Recently, in the St. Louis area, the Gateway Dueling Pianos show has been making rounds to different bars. The show features not just one, but 2 pianists who play the crowd’s favorite songs, but also add some humor in between.
Most of the Dueling Pianos shows happen on the 2nd floor of Big Daddy’s, in Soulard. This is a great venue that you can order food, and there’s a whole bar. In fact, while watching the show, you should try the toasted ravioli, which is a food originally from St. Louis.
Dueling Pianos at Big Daddy’s Soulard
This show is great for a date night, girl’s night out, groups, and more. Tickets are reasonably priced, and worth it. The show started off with a local comedian, and they are pretty funny and interact well with the crowd.
Once his short intro set is done, the piano players pass out pens and paper, and ask people to write down a song to play. The audience puts the songs in a pile, that the piano players will pick. The thing is, neither of the pianists have music scores in front of them, so they are winging it! Pretty interesting, right?
While playing, one of the pianists may be singing, and all from recollection, if they know the song. And yes, both are playing.
This particular show, aside from the featured comedian, there was a talented female pianist from Southern Illinois, named Alyssa D. She had some great pipes for a voice.
The pianist are great with including audience participation and hecklers beware (in a tongue in cheek way), as they will give back better than you do. It’s all fun and you get a variety of humor from recent trends, pop culture, politics, religion, raunchy jokes, and more.
You can follow Gateway Dueling Pianos on Facebook to see videos, pics of shows, and learn where they’ll next perform. You can visit the GatewayDuelingPianos.com if you’d like to book them. They do weddings, corporate events, and concerts.
