If you’re ever in Historic Soulard and have a hankering for tacos, Mission Tacos is the place to go. Their tacos are not just tasty, but also aesthetically pleasing. They really do a good service in sticking close to the traditional Mexican Street taco.
The staff highly recommended their Shrimp Tacos that have mango and habanero, and it was super delicious. The vegetables and succulent shrimp were fresh and if you think it would be spicy because of the habanero, the spice was very minimal.
Another taco that was surprisingly good, was their Portobello taco. Not everyone likes a vegetarian taco, but this taco doesn’t shirk on the Portobello mushrooms, and with the fried onion and other vegetables, it just works nicely on the palette.
If you like chicken, they do have a decent chicken taco, but if you don’t like pork, you can ask them to not put in their pork belly rinds, which is added for an interesting crisp.
Having lived in Texas, and Texans are passionate about Tex Mex (aside from beef), their salsa were pretty decent. However, if you don’t like spicy, even their most mild may be a bit peppery and hot, that will make you reach for your drink.
As for drinks, they have a nice selections of beers and even typical Mexican ones like Tecate, but their winner for alcoholic drinks is the Mezcal Margarita. The Mezcal Margarita is served on the rocks and has Mezcal and Tequila. They rim the glass with a bit of chili and salt, which gives it an interesting kick.
As for the atmosphere, the restaurant is decorated in a lot of Cali and modern type art. It’s very clean and the bartenders are very helpful, and knowledgeable about the food and drink selections. I went on a Sunday evening, and it wasn’t packed, so food and drink were delivered in a very timely fashion.
