If you like downtown St. Louis life, a bit of history, and cigars, then Stanley’s Cigar Co. This bar has been around since the late 1800s, and has been owned by the same family for several generations.
Stanley’s cigar is located within blocks of the America Center, so if you’re attending an event there, this is a great places to stop by, if you want to drink and smoke a good cigar. This place is in an older building, and gives off that historic feel, but with a classy upscale lounge and bar.
As for their selection of cigars, they have a great collections. At the time of this article, because of Covid-19, the humidor can only be looked at, but they have fantastic staff that can suggest cigars or retrieve any particular brand that you wish to try. I was given permission to quickly peruse and take some pictures inside, while grabbing a few sticks.
Stanley’s tends to be pretty busy, but don’t let that deter you. The other patrons are pretty chill and if you’re open to talking to a stranger and hearing their story, you’ll find some great ones to listen to. Also, during Cardinals games, they usually that the home games up on the big screens, so if you just want to drink, smoke, and watch a game, there’s that option.
As for the drinks, they have a very great selection of whiskey, bourbons, and everything in between. If you have a specific request, if the bartenders can accommodate you, they’ll do it. I asked for a Bacardi Spiced Rum, Pepsi, and some grenadine, and a bit of cherries for garnish (because I like my drinks to be a little pretty.)
Additionally, you’ll find that the bartenders will smoke cigars too, and they are quite knowledgeable about them, so if you don’t want to flag down the host, you can ask them.
